About

The purposes for which the association is organized are:

  • To preserve, enhance, and protect the quality of the waters of Upper Saranac Lake, the natural beauty and environment surrounding the lake, the adjoining waters and the Upper Saranac Lake watershed, and adjacent lands and forests.
  • To encourage and assist members, and the general public in improving the recreational enjoyment of these waters and lands in a responsible manner, without degrading or deteriorating the natural state of these resources.
  • To advocate laws, policies, and regulations which protect natural resources and cause individuals who live on or near the lake to use the lake for recreational activities in a responsible manner.
  • To advocate cooperative efforts among local and state political jurisdictions, lake shore associations, and private interests in causing fairness in taxation, in stimulating economic stability, and in promoting the common good.
  • To organize and function as a model to other like-minded lakeshore associations and to provide, when requested, assistance, encouragement, and cooperation to these organizations.
  • To promote and educate the membership about the historic culture of Upper Saranac Lake, which is the basis for improving the fragile relationship that humans have with the natural resources and ecosystems of the lake’s environment.

A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is Earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature. –Henry David Thoreau
